Macro Express will not work after I installed an older version over a newer version
You must uninstall Macro Express or Macro Express Pro before installing an older version over a newer version.
Sometimes preference settings or macro command structures are redefined with a newer version of Macro Express. When an older version of Macro Express is installed on top of a newer version, these settings may remain. Problems can occur when the older version does not recognize the new values.
To avoid these types of problems you should uninstall Macro Express before installing an older version.
If you have already installed an older version of Macro Express over a newer version and are having problems, you can fix it using one of these methods:
- Reinstall the latest version of Macro Express.
- Uninstall Macro Express and reinstall the older version.
- Use MacDef.exe to reset the preferences:
a. Make sure Macro Express is not running.
b. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer navigate to the folder where Macro Express is installed.
c. Click on the MacDef program to run it. - Delete only a portion of the Macro Express preferences using RegEdit. Open RegEdit and delete these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\Files
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\Paths
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\MRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\Toolbars
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\Files
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Insight Software Solutions\Macro Express\Paths
Warning: Incorrect registry changes may cause your PC to no longer function. Use with caution! If you are not comfortable making changes to your registry, you should ask someone for help who is familiar with changing the registry. We recommend you backup your registry before making any changes.
