How can I convert my v5 .mex file back to Macro Express 3 format?
The short answer is that you cannot convert the file back to a previous format. But there are several options available that should help you retrieve a copy of your file.
Restore from a backup file.
- Open Macro Express 3.
- Click File, Restore.
- Several files with the file extension .~mex should be listed. Open one to recover your macros.
- If the macro file is still empty try steps 1-3 again and open a different file.
Backup copy of the converted macro file.
When Macro Express converts a macro file that was created with Macro Express 3 it creates a backup of that file in the same folder where your macro files are stored.
- Look in the folder where your macro files are stored for a file that looks something like this:
Filename_ME3_-bak001.~mex - If found, copy it and rename it so something like macfilename.mex
- Load macfilename.mex into Macro Express 3 by clicking File, Open Macro File.
The temp file
When Macro Express 5 converts a macro file that was created with Macro Express 3 it creates a temporary file that is kept in the TEMP folder.
- Look in the temp folder for a file that looks something like this:
~mac4conf.tmp - If found, copy it to the file where your macro files are saved and rename it to macfilename.mex.
- Load macfilename.mex into Macro Express 3 by clicking File, Open Macro File.
Note: Because this file is stored in the TEMP folder this temporary file may not be available because it may have already been overwritten or deleted.
