Network Connect

This macro command connects, disconnects or toggles network drives. Use this feature to access a network server or another computer, bypass the network neighborhood, quickly make temporary network connections or similar. The three network options are described below.

Script Editor > Expand Network Category > Network Connect

Network Connect

The Network Connect command instructs Windows to map a drive letter to a drive on another computer.

Connect

Select from the available drive letters on the computer which drive is to be connected.

To Network Path

Enter the name of the drive and path to be connected. Either type this in directly or click on the Browse button to display all possible network drives available.

Make Connection Permanent

This option instructs Windows to remember the network connection created so that the next time the computer is started, the connection is made.

Use the Default Name and Password

This option instructs Windows to attempt to make the network connection using the home computer's login name and password. If not using this option, enter the login name and password required to access the network drive.

Network Disconnect

This instructs Windows to disconnect a drive from a network drive.

Disconnect

Select from the available drive letters on the computer which drive to disconnect from the network.

Make the Disconnect Permanent (Do not Remap on Startup)

This option instructs Windows to remember that this drive is not to be connected to a network drive the next time Windows is started.

Force the Disconnect Even if the Drive is in Use

This option instructs the macro to disconnect the network drive even if a program is using a file on the drive which is being disconnected. This action should typically not be taken unless absolutely sure that disconnecting will not have any adverse effects on programs currently using the drive.

Toggle Connection

This command is a combination of the Network Connect and Network Disconnect commands. It first checks to see if the drive is already connected to the network. If it is, it disconnects the drive. If the drive is not currently connected, then it makes the network connection.

Connect

Select from the available drive letters on the computer which drive to toggle.

To Network Path

Enter the name of the drive and path to toggle.

If not using this option, then enter the login name and password required to access the network drive.

Display Connection Status

This option instructs the macro to display a dialog box indicating whether the connection succeeded or not. This occurs when the macro runs.

List Currently Mapped Drives

Use this option to display which drives are currently mapped to network drives.

List Drives that Map on Startup

Use this option to display which drives are mapped as permanent connections -- ones that connect when the computer first starts.
