1 - Macro Express Pro v 4.0.1.1
The first maintenance release of Macro Express Pro has been released. Macro Express Pro v 4.0.1.1 is now available from
http://www.macros.com/download.htm.
Changes in this version are mainly a result of user feedback. A complete list of changes is available
at: http://www.macros.com/rev4_0_1_1.htm.
For a list of features new to Macro Express Pro, and to compare with our other automation programs, please see our Compare Products
web page at http://www.macros.com/compareproducts.htm.
The beta test version of Macro Express Pro has been in use for many months in several companies. To get an idea of how Macro Express
works read these stories about the real-world experiences of those using Macro Express Pro.
For other case studies visit the How Customers Use Macro Express page.
2 - Tip: Encrypt sensitive information
A customer expressed concern that login and password information stored in a macro file can be viewed by opening the macro file in
Notepad.
Passwords can be used to prevent others editing your macros from within Macro Express. However, opening a macro file in notepad or
another file editor program one can view the information contained in the macro file. By looking for clear text you can see login names
and passwords embedded in your macro.
If others could gain access to your computer or your macro file you should consider entering sensitive information using the 'Encrypted
Text' macro command. This command acts much like the 'Text Type' command but the information to be typed is encrypted in the macro file.
When the macro runs, information in the 'Encrypted Text' command is decrypted and typed out.
3 - Tip: Show IP Address
Rob Crannell sent a tip to share. The 'Get IP Address' macro command gets the IP address or addresses assigned to the computer. Rob
created a two line macro to get the IP address and display the result. He said "Super simple and super useful for users like me who
plug into different networks all the time."
When you connect your computer into a network it is assigned a unique IP address. If you want to know your computer's IP address the
'Get IP Address' command will get it.
The value returned is the IP address assigned to your computer by the network you are connected to. Because of the Network Address
Translation (NAT) protocol that IP address may differ from what a web site displays as your IP address.
Also note that a single computer can have more than one IP address. This can happen if you have more than one network connection, such
as wireless and wired, or if you have virtual machines running using such programs as VM Ware or Virtual PC. The Get IP Address command
will return all IP addresses in use by your computer.
Rob concludes his message by saying "Thanks for the best program I have ever paid for."
Thanks Rob! Because we printed Rob's tip and comments we will send him a Macro Express T-shirt.
4 - Shared Macro: A million to 1 (20 guesses)
Anthony Muller wants us to have a little fun. His macro, A million to 1, will help you determine any number between 1 and a million
within 20 guesses.
Download the macro and read more at
http://www.macros.com/usermacs/umamillionto1.htm.
This macro was written for Macro Express Pro. Anthony said "I have a version for Macro Express, but it's a little clunky without
variables being passed to the dialogue box."
Because we used his macro, Anthony Muller will receive a Macro Express T-Shirt. Thank you Anthony!
5 - Sample Macro: Run Macro in Variable to Convert a Date
A Macro Express customer asked "Is there a way to make a macro that will change dates from MM-DD-YY to DD-MMM-YYYY?" The answer
lead to an example that not only solves this problem but demonstrates how to use the 'Run Macro in Variable' command.
Read how the Run Macro in Variable command works and download the sample macro by
visiting http://www.macros.com/usermacs/umrunmacroinvariable.htm.
Written in Macro Express 3. May be imported to Macro Express Pro.
6 - Sample Macro: Video upload
There are many websites out there that allow you to upload a video. We created a collection of macros to allow you to upload the same
video to several video sites. As written, it will upload to YouTube, Google Video and RevVer sites. The macros can be expanded, however,
to include additional sites. These macros are also valuable as examples of different macro scripting techniques.
Visit http://www.macros.com/usermacs/umvideouploader.htm to get started.
We invite you to try these macros and extend their use. Send us enhancements or macros you create for additional sites. If we use your
contribution we will send you a Macro Express T-shirt as thanks.
These macros were written in Macro Express 3 but will work if imported to Macro Express Pro.
